My Review, Tips, Cheats, Links and More | PS3, XBOX

When I was about 14 years old, I walked into a 7-11 and heard “Get over here!” calling me from the far corner of the store. I obeyed the command and followed the voice to the original arcade version of Mortal Kombat.

I don’t know why but I instantly felt infatuaded with the game. It was the most realistic & violent fighting game I had ever seen (and possibly ever made) at that point in time.

If you loved the original Mortal Kombat (arcade, Genesis, Super NES) — I think you’ll love this new version. I haven’t liked any of the in-between versions of the game, especially the latest few of the francise with 3D-ish graphics and over complicated…everthing.

The controls are similar enough to the classic version that I could figure any of the original characters special moves from fuzzy 15 year old memories. Of course, there are updates and tons of new moves…but the original versions shines through.

Story mode takes you back to the original Mortal Kombat tournament with all the new characters blended into the original story. And they (the game makers) did a good job with this — story mode is very fun. I’ve spent the last 2 nights playing through 12 Chapters (out of 16) of story mode, taking turns with my girlfriend…turn playing with friends is great for resting thumbs!

Borrow it, Rent it or Buy it?

You can probably beat the game (story mode) within the borrow or renting timeframe. But, it is a great game to have around to challange friends and the online modes give it ever longer gameplay value.

For me, just the nostalgic value is worth ownership. If you are a 25 to 30-something that cherished the original Mortal Kombat — this is a must play.

Flawless Victory!

Mortal Kombat FAQs, Tips and Cheats

Q. How to beat Shao Kahn in story mode? A. This one took me a while to figure out. The best advice I can give is to: 1 keep your distance, 2 use fireballs over and over again. You’ll have to duck under the spear throws and over the hammers… but other than that you can just repeatedly spam with Liu Kangs fireballs.

Q. How many Chapters in story mode? A. There are 16 Chapters in Mortal Kombat.
